If you haven't already signed the main petition or the letter to President Bush at One.org, it's at least one small, non-partisan thing you can do before the July 6th G8 meeting.

http://www.one.org/ActionSignup.aspx
http://www.one.org/AddMyVoice.aspx

Dear President Bush,

Because:

* ONE billion people around the world live on less than ONE dollar a day;
* The US government spends less than ONE percent on overcoming global AIDS and poverty;
* Citizens are uniting as ONE across political and religious divides to support action to overcome the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty.

At the G8 leaders meeting on July 6th we urge you to:

* Help the poorest people of the world fight poverty, AIDS and hunger at a cost equal to just ONE percent more of the US budget on a clear timetable;
* Cancel 100% of the debts owed by the poorest countries;
* Reform trade rules so poor countries can earn sustainable incomes.

We urge you to lead an historic deal with other nations to help Africa and the poorest nations overcome global AIDS and extreme poverty. Together as ONE, we can Make Poverty History this July.

Sincerely,

http://www.one.org/AddMyVoice.aspx

Please, pass this around.

I joined because I like to debate and argue in a friendly manner with my friends.  I would like to start out by saying I found this journal by looking in the "existentialism" interest page.  I believe that I am a Christian or Jewish existentialist and that I am still searching.  I believe in natural law but also am very liberal in my views.  I like all religions--just not the politics in religion.  I have been in the French choir at Notre Dame des Victoires but have found that I cannot tolerate the new pope so I have gone to middle Episcopalean church in my hometown--Belmont, California.  I was raised Roman Catholic, been Episcopalean for a couple of decades, and Made the Pact to become Jewish fourteen years ago.

Some people think me odd or eccentric or odd for being able to take part in various religions.  But I really believe in spirituality and also like various religions--I just don't like the bigotry or politics that goes on in Churches.

If this journal is inapproriate or should be rewritten I promise to delete it or rewrite it.  I will understand if the moderators delete it--just let me know what specifically was wrong and I will change the journal and not let it happen again.

Thanks, Louie

This is a work in progress and may never see the light of day, but in it I see the echoes of something interesting

The Religious Wrong Takes America

In many places around the world people get to have their body parts chopped off (dicks, hands, heads, whatever) in the name of “god” when it is discovered they are homosexual. Don’t get me wrong, the religious wrong can hurt the heterosexual community by sending their kids out to war. To me the religions are just cults that are unscientific, unfounded and unreasonable. How long can the human race wear these aged cloths?
And before you call me a whiner liberal - certain sexuality/beliefs may not necessarily tie in with the religious wrong, and that (in common worst case scenarios) negates our right to practice it. At the very least we are not equal.

Solders now need to scrounge for equipment in order to survive, but as long as jesus loves you your ok.

I live next door to a large building that is both a high school and a middle school. One day I heard a great conversation between 3 teenage boys as adults and other kids mingled around (the high school had just let out).

“Where the fuck is that faggot”

I looked out attic my window to see the tops of their heads, right next to my house. 15 minutes later a skinny blond kid was hesitating to cross the street (the middle school had just let out and the street was flooded with even more adults and younger kids).

“We aint got all day” One of the guys yelled as the other two snickered.

“Hey, you’re supposed ta like pussy” Another one said in a common Michigander Wayne/Garth voice.

As the boy stood there nobody did anything (crossing guards, teachers standing within the school parking lot perimeters, parents, all sorts of adults ) in fact some were enjoying the harassment. I live in a neighborhood that has some neighbors brave enough to put up pride flags and it makes the straight people nasty towards us. You see folks, this is called cult bullshit and chances are unless you are gay or seem gay you will never fully understand it.

I walked down to the basement and found my tool box, took something out, and then I went out my door and out of the gate.

That kid will have no more problems.

Some liberals ask - how dare you call religion bullshit? You’re intolerant of the intolerant and that makes you intolerant- hypocrite! How dare they think just because a gay person is religious or they are a pro-gay religious person that those situations have any bearing on the lack of reality in these manuscripts of nonsense. Lets just get over it already, these books are bullshit.

As for my little crusade that day – I wasn’t stressed at all because I have to do things like that way too often. Whether work or home, I manage my environment, it doesn’t manage me.

THE EYE OF THE DEEP

Here we are...
Wow. This place is ENDLESS...

Out here we dive alone,
Still looking for pearls of ancient wisdom
Inside our ocean home.
The only mountains here are the clouds;
There is a living wind who blows around -
Gentle, warm, and soft.

This is a vast expanse of liquid trance
And we're floating just above our past
While treading water in it's wake,
With more potential than we can take
And more than anything could fake.

I'm centered in the middle
Only because I'm drawn to every point
Inside a bigger circle
Where circumfrence and diameter don't exist.

Am I past emotion now?

We're bouyant; bobbing on the surface
Of salt-water skin, wherein
We all subsisted once therein...
Inside the Eye Of The Deep.

BLEED MY MANIFESTO; DRAIN ME -
PRESTO, CHANGE-O! I CAN SEE
YOUR MOTIVES IN SLOW-MO
BUT YOU
CAN'T...SEE...ME.
SIT DOWN, HAVE A TALK WITH MY THOUGHTS AND
I WILL BLOW...YOUR...MIND...
RIP YOUR BRAIN RIGHT OPEN.

That world that's out there
Will call you until death.
It's your future, and it's asexual -
Hermaphroditic, in a sense -
This moment that you possess will breed the next
Through the dividing partners of your past tense
SO BE ON YOUR GUARD
For that cubic centimeter of chance,
We have to GRAB IT NOW because...
How long can it last?

Here, our spheres were open-minded,
Even open-sided,
And now...
Now that illusion of reality blinds us
To the reality of illusion, grinds us
Into organized confusion,
Fated for and never sated more
Than in our lust for this delusion.

You have met your death in person here.

I don't have to bend any rules now that I have seen
That there ARE NO rules to bend.
It doesn't matter if we fail or not,
When we play to win.
WE DON'T HAVE TIME
Because there IS NO time.
No other reason besides rhyme,
AND IT DOESN'T MATTER THAT NOTHING MATTERS -
We'll never make it out of this life alive.

We're bouyant; bobbing on the surface
Of salt-water skin, wherein
We all subsisted once therein...
Inside the Eye Of The Deep.

BLEED MY MANIFESTO; DRAIN ME -
PRESTO, CHANGE-O! I CAN SEE
YOUR MOTIVES IN SLOW-MO
BUT YOU
CAN'T...SEE...ME.
SIT DOWN, HAVE A TALK WITH MY THOUGHTS AND
I WILL BLOW...YOUR...MIND.
RIP YOUR BRAIN RIGHT OPEN.

So here we are.

Now I will give you proof of my silence.
Try this...
Put your finger to your lips
And never miss
The opportunity to keep your mouth shut...
When there is more to see and hear.

Hey there. I'm pretty new to the zine community and I'm trying to start my own online zine. Eventually I'd like it to be on paper but right now I think online would be best. But back to the point I was getting to, I need submissions!! If you've got something to say write it down and send it, or send a picture, whatever. For now just email it to me at Lupy265@hotmail.com with ZINE SUBMISSION in the subject line. Later I'l put my address up here so you can send pictures and whatnot. Thanks. :)

Okay I've really been slacking it.. instead of completing this zine I was helping promote a few shows down here.. but the huge lash of bands is slowly coming to an end this Sunday.. so my dedication to this zine is on again....

I've decided it was going to be a half-sized zine and I'm still trying to decided on how many pages this first issue will be..

Remember this is everyone's zine so feel free to add any ideas or recommendations...

...progress so far....

-I've gotten several local writer's articles
-i got two show reviews
-got one article on vegan from kris in pensacola
-and valerie returning writer is sending in an article

....what i need....

-more show reviews
-music reviews
-articles
-and art

If you have anything to add feel free to get in contact with me

Thanks

Okay so the background isn't so great. I never said I was a great web-designer! Oh well!

So I welcome anyone that has joined or is just watching.

Zine Deadline for this first issue is Aug. 21st... you'll find most deadlines run around the 20th or 21st. I already have a few people who are non-lj users submit articles, and some more are promised to be sent within the next few days.

What is this zine about? Well that is basically answered in the info, but for a simple answer here it is: This zine is dedicated to express views, I take the distribution of this zine very very seriously. I try to find areas and social groups that are different from the writers and hope they in return have something to add!

Reviewers Reviewers are needed! I like reviews to be highly opinionated but not close minded! Therefore for music and show reviews I need someone who is well knowledge and open minded about all types of music! As for zine reviewers I would want someone with knowledge about the zine world and can give an honest opinion as to how the zine adds up on the scale. Old Zinsters Please!

What Can I Contribute Anything!!

Hope this clears up a little bit, if not please reply or contact me at xiolasmith@aol.com with the headline ZINE, I only ask for it to be in capital letters because I get so much spam that I have a tendency of hitting the delete button to anything that isn't recognizable!

Okay I'm finishing the whole background and the settings! As soon as that is all done, I should leave you with information as to deadlines, what this zine is all about and clearing up on any of any questions!
